Launch of the IGJ Website

15th February 2016

Economy Minister Jonathan Bell launched the www.jobsandgrowthni.gov.uk in February 2016 to promote the EU funded Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme for Northern Ireland (2014-2020).  The Programme, worth €513m aims to support the delivery of Northern Ireland’s Economic and Innovation Strategies and achieve real and lasting change to our economy.

The Programme will focus on

  • Encouraging Research, Technological Development and Innovation;
  • Enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs); and
  • Supporting the shift towards a low carbon economy.

The European Commission has agreed a number of ambitious targets for the Programme which include increased business expenditure in Research and Development and the creation of jobs.

Emphasising the importance of the programme the Minister said: “This website has been specifically designed to provide useful, clear advice and guidance on what can be a complex matter. The website has been specifically developed to promote the opportunities and benefits of the Investment for Growth and Jobs Programme in Northern Ireland.

“Funding from the Programme is aimed at supporting businesses here in a number of ways and through a variety of interventions delivered by Invest Northern Ireland. These include the provision of alternative repayable sources of investment capital, support to undertake research and development activity and grants and advice for those businesses seeking to enhance their competitiveness. As such, the Programme is in total alignment with the NI Northern Ireland Economic Strategy which recognises the need to build on our existing strengths as well as exploit new opportunities in the global economy.”
